The Grameen bank
is the bank of the poor. It gives loan
to the landless and helpless people especially the women. Professor Muhammad
Yunus is the founder and managing director of this Bank . Professor Muhammad
Yunus founded Grameen bank at jobra village of hathazari in chittagong
district in 1976. It aims at improving the condition of the poor
people living in the village. The Grameen
bank gives loan to the women through various centers. Each center has at
least 5-6 groups of workers containing
five member each. The member conduct their business though the
chairman elected by the group
member with the bank. This bank lends money to people who are poor. Landless and helpless
though micro credit system. With these small loans, the poor people have been
able to earn more and come out of their proverty. The can use it many
productive activities . this bank has
gained popularity in Bangladesh
in the rural areas. Starting with
just one small village , grameen bank
has now has spread over 55,000 villages over the Bangladesh
. This micro credit system gained popularity
in many countries of the world . Professor Muhammad Yunus and Grameen
bank were awarded (nobel) prize for
peace in 2006.
